HistoryOn July 13, 1953, several Houston women conceived the idea of an art league, which gave birth to the Houston Art Society (HAS), originally known as Conservative Arts of Houston.
The goal of Houston Art Society is to advance the study and appreciation of the arts through art demonstrations, workshops and art shows. Fellowship is fostered through annual Christmas and Spring luncheons for members. |
HAS meets at 10:00 am on the third Monday of the month (unless otherwise noted), September through May, at the Memorial Church of Christ Family Center, 900 Echo Lane, Houston TX 77024. The Family Center is located in the back corner of the parking lot. Guests are always welcome.
Meetings include a two-hour artist demonstration by a well-known artist, who may offer a workshop on the following Monday. Topics and media vary, but include oil, acrylics, watercolor, pastel, and sculpture. Click here for details. |
Lone Star Art GuildHouston Art Society is a member of the Lone Star Art Guild, a fine arts organization of art leagues located within a 200 mile radius of Houston. As an LSAG member, HAS hosts Spring and Fall Shows, which are judged for prizes and open to any artist affiliated with LSAG. Winning paintings of HAS shows are eligible to participate in the exhibition and awards during the LSAG annual convention.
